Narcis Costa
Narcís Costa, born in Girona in 1949, is a sculptor trained at the Escuela Eina de Barcelona and the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, where he lived for four years. In the 1970s he settled in Roses, in the Alt Empordà, developing a body of work deeply connected to matter and its history.
His work is characterized by a respectful and disciplined treatment of materials, especially wood and iron. Costa does not merely seek to recycle, but to give a second life to objects and elements that hold a past. As he himself states: "I resist things dying; I don't like being subject to the rules of consumption for consumption's sake".
Through his mastery and creativity, he transforms “lived” materials into sculptures that release their essence and invite us to rediscover their beauty and qualities. This artistic strategy turns each piece into a bridge between the object's memory and its new form, establishing a dialogue between past and present.
The work of Narcís Costa is consolidated as a reference within contemporary Catalan sculpture, where matter is not just a support, but the protagonist of a process of artistic rebirth.
