Quim Domene

Quim Domene, born in Olot (Girona) in 1948, is a renowned self-taught visual artist whose career is characterized by a constant exploration of techniques, media, and languages. He began his career as a graphic designer but quickly turned to painting and, over time, to a multidisciplinary artistic practice that includes photography, reprography, sculpture, installations, and public art.

His work is structured into thematic and stylistic series, approaching each project with an experimental and critical vision. From 1968, he began exhibiting with artistic collectives such as the Grup d’Ara, the Assemblea d’Artistes de la Garrotxa i Olot, and Temps de Ruptura, marking his participation in the most active artistic movements of the time. Since 1974, he has held solo exhibitions in various cities in Catalonia and Spain, such as Barcelona, Girona, Figueres, Vic, Reus, Palma de Mallorca, and Elx, among many others.

During the 1980s, Domene took his work to Europe, with solo exhibitions in Germany (Hannover, Düsseldorf, Köln, among others), Switzerland, Austria, France, and Sweden. In 1991, he presented his work in New York, and since 1998, he has also exhibited in several cities in Japan, including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe.

Quim Domene has participated in international art fairs such as ARCO and ESTAMPA (Madrid), as well as competitions in Barcelona, Valencia, Hannover, Montréal, Buenos Aires, and Osaka. His work has been recognized and analyzed by prominent critics, writers, and curators such as Joan Barril, Miquel Martí i Pol, Pilar Parcerisas, Xavier Antich, and Gloria Bosch, among others, in various monographs and specialized publications.

Furthermore, he has left a significant mark on urban spaces with artistic interventions in towns such as Olot, Girona, Les Preses, Riudellots de la Selva, Figueres, and Calella de Palafrugell.

Quim Domene's work stands out for its conceptual richness, its commitment to the environment, and its capacity for constant evolution, positioning him as an essential figure in Catalan and international contemporary art.
